This is a picture of our 4 muscovie ducks 6 weeks old just on the outside of our chicken run. Why Ducks???????? Ducks, especially muscovies, are fabulous at pest control. They waddle along with their beaks close to the ground and snap up anything that flies. Getting up to 12 pounds for muscovies, ducks can also be dressed out (killed for meat) for a great tasting alternative to chicken and beef. Allowing ducks to roam free like this not only keeps them happier, but they get to do what God intended them to do: Pest control.

I can honestly say after having the ducks for about a month being old enough to start catching flying pests, we have noticed a dramatic decrease of flies and mosquitoes. These ducks haven't made a peep since getting little bigger than chicks. They are the perfect backyard birds.
